We believe dogs are a much loved – and permanent – part of any family, but we know that sometimes circumstances mean they need a new forever home.
Please, please don’t sell your dog or advertise it on Gumtree, etc, as ‘free to a good home’ – some apparently credible but very cruel humans obtain dogs this way. Instead, use a rescue charity to help you find a new owner. Many rescues will help you with home checks, even while your dog stays with you until a suitable new family is found.
A full list of rescues not too far away in Essex and Hertfordshire are here. These are local:
RSPCA Essex South West
Change A Paw Life Rescue (Debbie Jager 07863 253627)
There are also charities who may be able to help:
Give A Dog A Bone can help the over 60s with an existing pet companion, but whose financial circumstances have changed.
The Cinnamon Trust helps the elderly and terminally ill look after their pets.
The Dog’s Trust’s Freedom Project provides temporary foster care for dogs of families fleeing domestic violence.
The Dog Trust’s Hope Project gives advice to dog owners who are homeless or in housing crisis.
There are also two vets for those on low incomes:
Blue Cross Mobile Vet Clinic Walthamstow, Walthamstow Town Square on Fridays, register first by calling 0300 777 1890
PDSA Pet Aid, Woodford Bridge Road, Ilford IG4 5PS, 020 8550 6644
